Worker Amby

Posted by Tim at 7:54am on Saturday the 15th of March, 2008

Amby is famous for his uncleanliness at home, but Amby was a hard worker on the job.  I found that out when I worked with him at McDonald's.  I loved working with Amby because I knew if I asked him to do something, it would get done.   I remember visiting him in Petaluma when he was in the Coast Guard, and Amby did everything like he was supposed to.  He kept his uniform pressed and his shoes shined.  He marched in formation with everyone else, although something about him didn't seem to fit in.  Maybe it was his lanky statue, or maybe he had a look on his face like "this is so ridiculous".  But he did his job.  In fact, I remember at McDonald's he would get so indignant because he thought things weren't being done right, and he would call management out on it.  Amby didn't deserve the flak he got from the working world, because he really was an asset to everyone he worked for.  I recently saw a Coast Guard billboard saying, "Part-time heroes needed".  Someone ought to tell them they need to do a better job of recognizing heroes when they see them.

Ambyisms

Posted by Tim at 7:20am on Saturday the 15th of March, 2008

  • "Anywho"
  • yellow mangos, nerds, sprees and California rolls
  • Short, rapid, characteristic laugh
  • "Now, uh, Tim...what do you think about this..."
  • Red hair and blue eyes
  • insomnia
  • These faces...

Video Games

Posted by Tim at 7:00am on Saturday the 15th of March, 2008

My best memories of Amby are of playing video games together.  I remember we used to take shifts fighting to get experience points in Final Fantasy VII while the other person slept.  Amby would always take the night shift on account of his insomnia.  I remember always getting mad at him because he'd get bored of getting experience points and would move forward to the next cut-scene.  I'd wake up, and say "Where are you?", and he'd say, "Oh, don't worry, Tim, I saved the game before the cut-scene, but I just got bored and had to move on."  That was Amby--always wanting to experience new things.  And another thing about Amby and video games:  whenever he had a choice of gender for his character, he was always a girl.  What was up with that!?

I Love The Man

Posted by Rose at 12:26am on Saturday the 15th of March, 2008

Ambrose shot me at close blank range between the eye with a frozen paintball.  It was an accident.  Let me explain.  He had a "Batman" complex, where he tried to right the wrongs done to innocent/ good people by bad people.  My roommate at the time, Becky, had a boyfriend who took advatage of her sister (while Becky and I were talking in the other room).  The girl the was taken advantage of way 13 years old.  Ambrose could not let this slide.  So we invited this guy, this souless jerk, Dan, over to our apartment hoping to pop a frozen paintball cap in his square butt.  But Dan somehow knew something was up, so he left the apartment before he could get his come-upins.  Ambrose, wearing a bright orange trench coat, a Howard Stern Wig, and cop sunglasses, waited in position for Dan to come.  He got so excited about getting revenge for this girl that he started pacing (in this crazy outfit) back and forth with his paintball gun, and his hand slipped on the trigger and it hit me between the eyes.  I thought he blinded me.

When Dan got wind of the target on his head he turned to the home shopping network and bought a sword that he called, "The Ambrose Anilalator".  This only made Ambrose all the more happy, and he bought an axe or maybe a sword, maybe a baseball bat (I can't remember) which he named, "The Dan Destoyer".

Dan is like one of those guys from Shawn of the Dead:  he pushs grocery carts (which he has been doing for years now) at a Winco in Chico.  The only reason I mention him is to illustrate how much Ambrose wanted to right the wrongs; even if it did not affect him.

I love my brother.  I will never get over this.  I love the man, and I'll get by each day, until I can live with peace in my mind and carry him with me.  I love the man.

Sled Riding

Posted by Rose at 12:14am on Saturday the 15th of March, 2008

Maryland winters are brutal, but we loved them:  coming from a family with a lot of siblings, getting off of school, and fighting it out on sleds.  My brothers and Julie would have sled wars:  we would build ramps, knock each other off of their sled, and loved every minute of it.  Ambrose was a dare devil in those days.  Here his is all decked out and ready for action.
