Days with Amby

Posted by Jaden at 6:20pm on Thursday the 13th of March, 2008

(this is going to be a long one)

So, I met amby when I was about 16.  I have so many memories of him that are fresh in my mind!  We used to take long drives to nowhere, we enjoyed many picnics and alot of time outside side.  He took me to Tokyo Garden for the first time and I was horrified as he told me to dare him to eat a whole serving of wasabi in one bite!  I thought it was funny that he was asking to be dared, but I played along - - he was a trooper!  I remember his days of his love for the band Muse, I'll forever remember his obsession with the Love Spell scent that he used to spray all over himself, his car and any unfortunate victim that happened to be in his car.  He also used to love to come over to my house when I was still living at home.  I can't tell you how many times I would have a group of my friends over, only to find that while the rest of us were having a great time at one part of the house, he'd always managed to find my mom, hang out with her and help her do the most random stuff like sort through her bills or family photos or do household chores.  I was a rebellious teenager at the time so the thought of one of my friends wanting to actually hang out with my mom was a little apalling, but also incredibly sweet and endearing. :D  Well, we all know that amby was always the life of the party, the light in the room, the one to always pull together the crazy "shindigs" at andrew's or my house or anywhere he could. However, my favorite memory would have to be this: At my first house of my own, with my roommate Lauren, Amby pulled together many, many parties.  At times it could be exhausting and seeing as my room was upstairs and away from it all, I would sometimes retreat to some peace and quiet.  At one of the these parties, Amby wandered up to my room and instead of playing his usual part of life-of-the-party, he spent an entire evening just talking.  That's all he wanted to do, was talk.  That's all he needed in that moment, was to talk.  And let me tell you, when that kid would sit down with you and open up and really, honestly communicate...he had one of the wisest, inspiring, most beautiful souls within. One that I will never forget. . .

More proof that Amby had great style

When I moved in with Rose I discovered all of my long lost super cool garments in her closet. She seemed embarrassed and quickly ratted out Ambrose. He had been pilfering my cool clothes and hiding them at her house. He told her she could also wear them, but never around me. I never got those blue velvet sailor pants back, but then they never looked as good on me.

Swimming Lessons

Posted by Aunt Irene at 4:13am on Thursday the 13th of March, 2008

My fondest memory of Amby is when I took him and Julie for swimming lessons one winter.  Even though it was frigid out and sometimes icy, we went.  I observed them at each step of each lesson, Amby gave it his all.  Amby was small in stature but solid like a rock and like a rock his body wanted to sink.  But, he never gave up even during the back stroke, water would be up over his eyes with only the tip of his nostral showing to breathe and there Amby was stroking along.  I felt within myself that he would be ok in life, that he would give anything he tried to do, his all.  And I believe he did give it his all.

Tucking Amby in at Night

Posted by Aunt Irene at 4:07am on Thursday the 13th of March, 2008

Amby and Julie lived with me when they were around 5 to 8 yrs old.  I would tuck them in at night and give them hugs and kisses.  Amby acted like he did not like it but only because he was a boy and not supposed to enjoy such things as that afraid of being a sissy, but I could tell he loved it.  I wish I could have had him with me much longer and tucked him in for many more years.  I loved him almost as much as if he were my own son.

Fire story

Posted by Aunt Irene at 4:00am on Thursday the 13th of March, 2008

I remember well the fire that the boys set in the back woods by the cabin.  I woke up from a nap smelling smoke so strong I thought my house was on fire.  By this time fire engines were driving around trying to find the correct driveway, I directed them.  Many more trucks and equipment followed.  The cost to fight the fire was great.  At least 3 acres burned to the ground.  I was working at the Fire Department at the time and knew the Fire Marshal.  Amby and Simon's grandfather was very angry and wanted to press charges, so did the Fire Marshal.  I took the fire marshal aside and explained what good kids Ambrose and Simon was (didn't know Matt was involved too) and how they were probably playing with firecrackers and it was windy and the fire got away from them.  I had the fire marshal thinking the very best of Amby and Simon, he said he had to go talk to their father, after he went down the their house and returned he said to me, they were good kids.  Amby's grandfather wanted payment from the boys by way of free labor to work around the farm for 5 years but the fire marshal said no, he could get $25,000 in damages but could not force them to work, so their grandfather dropped the charges.  The fire marshal did require them to pay some consequence and to learn a lesson so they had to go to classes featuring fires.
