Taco Salad

Posted by Alaina at 8:03pm on Wednesday the 12th of March, 2008

Ambrose used to randomly show up at my house hungry and ask me to make taco salad for him. He would go get everything at the store and bring it back, and I would cook it. I don't know if he realized just how easy taco salad is to make, so he always thanked me profusely. I didn't have the heart to point out to him that the hardest part of taco salad is grating the cheese... and he often brought already-grated cheese from the store.

Ambrose, this is for you. I'll start making it more often and think of you every time.

Taco Salad:

-1 head of lettuce, washed

-bag -o- dorritos, any flavor (original is best)

-Catalina dressing

-fake burger or real, cooked up w/ taco seasoning

-cheese.. any amount, any kind..grated

-olives, sour cream, onions, etc to taste

Cook hamburger/hamburger wannabe normally and add taco seasoning. Drain. Chop or tear lettuce into bite-sized pieces and put in large bowl. Add hamburger, cheese, and crunched up dorritos. Squirt some dressing into the bowl and stir it until you are pleased with the results. Eat.

I would give anything to make this for him one more time.

Turning Green

His skin really did take on a green hue from lack of sunlight due to video games.

This one paticular picture

Posted by Rose at 7:01pm on Wednesday the 12th of March, 2008

The picture below was taken by me in our Churn Creek Apartment in Redding.  Simon was 20, Julie 14, Ambrose 16, and I was 22.  I took this photo with me to a creative writing workshop.  My writing was always steering to the negative side, and since I love my family so much I thought I'd brind in this photo and start my sunshine warpath through the San Francisco Creative Writing Department.  We had to sit and write for twenty minutes.  How could we not look happier?  But in fact we were barely seeing Simon even though he lived down the street.  Julie was living with her best friend's mother, whose ex husband shot and killed her step mother around the month the picture was taken.  Ambrose was always one to show us a good time.  But look at him leaning on us, smiling; he needed us just like all families need each other to stick together.  I concluded this was one of the saddest pictures of my siblings.  My father was 3,000 miles away in Vermont.  Most of the fun times, nearly ten years ago now, happened around this picture.  I just have to say that because it's the truth: that we we not always happy.  That stuff went on behind the scenes.  But Ambrose, leaning on his family with a crown on his head, kept good times going.  Even in adversity he was a rockstar.

This picture was posted originally somewhere with the quote  "Now picture him saying oooooh yeah in the Scotty lunge voice".  Enough said.

Goldeneye Snipin'

Posted by Alaina at 5:33pm on Wednesday the 12th of March, 2008

The story about Ambrose turning green from lack of sun/air/food/too much video games is so true. He was so good at games that it became impossible to play with him. He played Goldeneye so much that he knew the rotation of where you would reappear after you died, and he would take you out, then run immediately to where he knew you were about to pop back up, then get you again.. and again... and again..evil laugh included.
